Caregiver Tip #6: Invest in your loved ones

"Our 21 yr old daughter's anorexia became life-threatening; she called me asking to pay for a psychiatrist and dietician specializing in eating disorders. She is 5'10" and weighed 112 lbs. She required two sessions a week, costing a total of $380. I thought that would kill our savings goals, then the realization that anorexia was killing our daughter struck me hard. There's a difference between giving every penny you have to enable a loved one and paying for professional care that would save their life.

She was crying for help and showed a genuine desire to change; we couldn't ignore that. Had we not paid for therapy and support, she may not be here today. Now our daughter can manage her eating disorder, is gaining weight, and thriving. We take it one day at a time and count our blessings. If you have the money and a loved one who is sincere in their desire to heal, invest in them. Invest the time, love, and compassion they need to keep holding on because their life here on earth is priceless."
