Caregiver Tip #2: Don’t take it out on your loved one

“Caregiving is hard! It stretches us to the max sometimes and makes us more vulnerable to many different emotions. For example, when we get stressed beyond our limits, some of us cry, and some of us get angry, or both! That is absolutely normal! Welcome to being human!

The key is, what do we do with those emotions? The last thing any of us want to do is direct our frustration at our loved one, who needs our care and support. Instead, find healthy ways to vent those emotions. For some of us, it might be getting some exercise or calling a friend. For others, it may be by writing our thoughts on paper or pushing the pause button to breathe, meditate or pray. Whatever we do, it is important to acknowledge our emotions and vent them in a healthy way."
